Google Ads Just Got More Complicated — Another Reason to Back Your Organic Strategy

Google quietly updated their ads documentation this week and it’s worth knowing about. Because of all the new AI search features — AI Mode, AI Overviews, Lens searches and autocomplete — Google’s ads system no longer always matches your ads to the exact keywords you bid on.

Instead, Google’s AI decides what your ad is relevant for based on what it thinks the user intended. Meaning you could be paying for clicks from searches you never chose to target and would never have approved.

For big brands with big budgets and dedicated ad teams this is manageable. For a small trade business trying to make every dollar count? It’s another reason why building your organic presence through great content, location pages and AEO is a smarter long term investment than handing Google your credit card and hoping for the best.
